It depends on what you're looking for. I loved Joey Styles in the ORIGINAL ECW (OH MY GOD!!!!!) because he called out the moves correctly.
If I want storytelling, I'd have JR and Lawler. I hate the 3 man commentary. JBL is obviously a heel, Lawler is obviously a face, and Cole is obviously out of place. Cole is fine on SmackDown, but he just doesn't seem (at least to me) comfortable with the 3 man Raw commentary table.
I actually did like Cole when he was the shill for the "anonymous Raw GM." Everytime anyone's iPhone goes off with that sound, I think "May I have your attention please? I've just received an email from the anonymous Raw General Manager."

I liked the JR - Lawler tandem when Lawler was the heel commentator, before he got popular for shouting "puppies" everytime a girl walked on the stage.
I don't think there's any combination you can place up there today that would be worth listenin to, though, because a large part of the issue is they're fed too many buzzwords and filler crap to sell the product instead of just letting them commentate.
I agree about heel Cole. He was corny but still made it somewhat funny. Now he just sounds like a whiney child anytime a face gets jobbed or JBL says something.

To me its Gorilla+Heenan> Everyone else. The two of them just had such a great chemistry together that Bobby could literally say anything and Gorilla without missing a beat would respond. I liked JR and King (until he got popular yelling PUPPIES!).
Greatest Commentary during a match IMO: 1992 Royal Rumble.
Another good one: Piper during Virgil vs DiBiase matches.
I'd love to see the stand up comedy that Jim Cornette, Bobby Heenan, Paul Heyman, and Percy Pringle could come up with.

I'm watching a Smackdown episode from 2001 on the Network and the commentary team is Michael Cole and Jerry Lawler.
It's actually not bad commentary at all despite being 2/3rds of the shitty commentary we have to put up with in present day.
It just reaffirms my assertion that the biggest problem is that they're fed too much shit they have to push and sell and it distracts from being able to just watch the match and commentate on it.
Cole isn't that bad in this episode I'm watching because he's not having to spend half the time shilling the WWE App and WWE Network.

I like how the commentators repeatedly go on about how the contract is practically a guarantee at a championship when the eventual winner was screwed out of his.

Holy shit, Malenko's counter of the superplex was awesome.
And I was coming here to post that before I realized they used that as the finisher.

The absolute only problem I had with that match was Scotty jumping on the bad leg to do the worm. Everything else was superb.
I think some posts were incorrectly moved. Not all of this has to do with commentary

I never got to watch any of the In Your House events. Hart typically never disappoints. This should be good.
