Attention! 2014 NL Mid-Season Cy Young

Currently, there are 15 starting pitchers that qualify, sporting an ERA under 3. One of them is Jonathon Niese. Another is Jason Hammel. The fourth guy on the list, is Henderson Alvarez. Clayton Kershaw is not amongst that list, only because he missed time early on. But he makes my list, because he's partially superhuman right now. You know who else makes my list?

Alfredo Simon. The strikeouts won't wow you. But Cincinnati remains afloat and survived Mat Latos being out because of his work.

Re: 2014 NL Mid-Season Cy Young

cueto and wainwright are having ridiculous seasons, its kinda tough to not give them the vote based on the fact that they have 40/50 more innings and 4/5 more starts than kershaw. but kershaw is the best pitcher on the planet, even with 40 less innings than wainwright, he has more strikeouts than him, and even with 5 less starts, hes got an extra win than cueto [yes yes i know, wins are a shitty stat]... and he pitched the 2nd greatest game in the history of the sport a week or two ago. and hes got like 35 consecutive scoreless innings, or something. so yea, this is tougher than it needs to be. ill give it to cueto right now, since this is the mid-season cy young, and not who we fully expect to be the cy young by the end of the year. but that doesnt mean that i think cueto is a better pitcher than kershaw.

Narrowly went with Wainwright. But he's just a placeholder until Kershaw has effectively destroyed the league.

Cueto now. Kershaw by the end of the year. Niese for quiet "wait, that guy did THAT" season of the year. He's been spectacular (before that fucker Alex Rios tried to kill him tonight).

Kershaw is taking names and kicking ass. I think he's the Cy right now.
