I went with Ventura, the team is playing loose and having fun, things that haven't existed for a few years.

I went with buck... Ventura was my next, but CWS play in a very winnable division. The Os are always supposed to be last in that division.

Bob Melvin. Just about everyone predicted the A's would be in last place. Right now they're tied for the 2nd Wild Card spot.

Bob Melvin is doing more with less talent than anyone else in the AL. Will the A's hang in there? Hard to say, but he has them playing well.

I keep forgetting about that second wildcard.

Less talent? I don't know about that assessment. They lead the AL in ERA and that's no accident. They'll be getting McCarthy, Anderson, and Braden back in the next month, too. Yes, they need some help on offense, but they have some talent there in Cespedes, Reddick, and Carter. Smith and Gomes have been a super platoon (20 homers, 60 RBIs, 63 walks, and 62 runs in 401 ABs with a combined OPS over .800). Weeks is talented, but having a down year. Norris is a very talented catcher who is just getting his feet wet in the majors.

Fine, then don't give Melvin the manager of the year honors since his team isn't exactly devoid of talent. You can't have it both ways.

I didn't realize manager of the year had to be given to the manager that did OK with a bunch of scrubs. My point is they have some talent, but no one expected them to even be above .500. He has them playing well. You have to talent to begin with. They're just ahead of schedule thanks to his help.

You cannot in good faith play the underdog card in the manager's favor and then take the same rationale as an insult to your team's talent.

He's gotten more out of them than anyone expected. That is regardless of talent level. To imply they have no talent is false.
