    Koufax 7.775 per start
    McClain 8.11 per start
    Verlander 7.33 per start

Gibson's season was off the charts. In today's baseball the reliever and pitch counts took over thought processes of managers and how they handled pitchers. Name at any point in time that "setup" men were used in 60's. Imagine Verlander on a different mound (like Gibson, Koufax and McClain) at 15 feet.

Re: Who is the AL MVP?

I can name plenty of times setup men were used in the 1960's. They just weren't used near as often as now. Still doesn't take away from Foster's argument that pitchers back then did a lot more than today's pitcher and why they were considered legitimate MVP's. The fact that things are different now makes Foster's point even clearer. Things are different and there are more deserving players for MVP, even on his own team!

We're almost in December and I voted on this poll so long ago that I had to go back to find out who I voted for because I honestly didn't remember.

The writers didn't think so, apparently.

Wouldn't be the first time they were wrong, won't be the last either.
