I do agree with Saber that this HAS to be an effort to set a mid-point. But still, do you risk lowballing a talent like Lincecum to save a couple of million while potentially pissing him off seriously? Especially with an offer coming in below $10 million. He not only has the stats but the hardware to back up his achievements.
