There has been some "debate" as to whether Jeff Kent is a HOFer or not. So now we put it to a vote. Do you think Jeff Kent is a HOFer?

Absolutely. He won't get in on the first ballot, but I can't see any way that his stellar offensive numbers at a weak 2B position doesn't get him in.
i'd pick none of the above, really. I'm kind of ambivalent towards him. If he's elected, i wont shed any tears. If he isn't elected, i wont feel too bad either.
He's going to be judged against other sluggers, not just second basemen due to the fact his defense was lackluster (i'm not saying he was a butcher, he just wasnt any better than a bit below average), not to mention this generation the offensive stats are a bit skewed.
I'd say theres a better than even chance he gets in, but not much better chance than that. He will take longer than 3 years to get in, thats for sure (you know how writers get)

Of course he'll get in. And rightfully so.

So you guys are saying he's not a Hall of Famer on the first ballot, but over time as his numbers...do nothing...he'll be one?
I did a lot of good things as a sim league GM.
Ah, give me something clever to say here.
I think he's going to be snubbed by a few asshole writers who wanna get back at him. It took Jim Rice 15 years. His numbers did just what Kent's are gonna do. Nothing.
Plus, writers only vote for guys on the first ballot if they think the player deserves first ballot. Like a Ricky Henderson. Writers are weird like that.
He doesn't deserve it, as I've argued.
People are the exact opposite of me in terms of Kent and Larry Walker.
Many people are also opposed to Mussina's chances.
I think you're all crazy.
I just know the idiots that vote wont put him in on the first ballot cause his numbers arent that outstanding to merit it. He probably wont have to wait as long as Rice did comparing him (Kent) to Sandberg. I just hope the BBWA have enough of a sense of humor to put him in the same class as Bonds.
You got to look at what Kent has done in terms of other second basemen. He wouldnt be considered if he put up those stats at 1b, 3b, or corner OF cause then he'd be up against the elite sluggers.
Walker Im 50/50 on. If he gets in fine, if he doesnt Im not going to go the mountain peaks screaming bloody murder cause he didnt make it. Havent considered Mussina before because he hadnt "officially" retired yet.

Look at how he performed against all MLers All Time in Ks, Outs, GIDP and FP at 2B.
He's deplorable.
The only HOFers above him on each of those lists are either in via VC or have 500 HR or 3000 H.
The fact that he couldn't field league average at his position makes his case unique; he just doesn't classify as a 2B to me.
Also, Kent only led the league ever in XBH 1x, and in Sac Flies.
One he had no influence on. His MVP was arguable too; he just doesn't have a deserving resume
Larry Walker was an elite player who appeared on leaderboards every year.
Mussina was one of the most consistent winners ever.
Answer here is no. Other than having the highest homerun total for a second baseman (and really, homeruns mean little anymore), he had one outstanding season, a couple other pretty good ones, and that's pretty much it. Overall he was quite forgettable. Just another very good player, but not elite.

Who cares what the BBWA wants?
This poll isn't going to determine Jeff Kent's hall of fame status so what's the point of following their asinine directives?
I think Jeff Kent's a Hall of Famer whether it's the 1st ballot or the 19,256,925th ballot, but I can't vote for that because I'm being asked to choose between "1st ballot" or "not first ballot".
I never understand why people approach "is (fill in retiring sports player here) a HOFer?" questions with whether or not they think they will get in. (As opposed to whether or not they think they should get in.)
The person gets in or they don't get in. Whenever I ask that question I want to know what you, the poster, think. Not what you think that the BBWA (or equivalent for other sports) thinks.

Okay, I voted based on what the BBWA would do. And honestly if I were a voter (short of a ridiculous number of superstar players) yes Id vote Kent to be in first year. You cant over look his entire career with the power numbers at the position and not have the all time HR hitter for 2bs in.
