Would the 07 Padres count? They lead the wild card, but blew it against the Rockies.

Yeah, but they only lead by 1 or 2 games the whole time.

It's not as though they ever had a clear cut lead in the race.

And, hell, up until the last 3 games of the season the Padres played some damn good baseball down the stretch.

The Rockies are in the playoffs more because they won 14 of their last 15 games than because of anything the Padres did.

(not that they didn't shoot themselves in the foot by not winning just 1 of 3 games that could have gotten them in)

Not anymore, that was written before the NL playoffs were determined.

• The Padres (83.37 percent to make the playoffs after games of September 20th) would rank 50th all-time if they miss;
• The Brewers (86.65 percent on July 2nd) would rank 40th if they miss;
• The Cubs (95.58 percent on September 23rd) would rank 12th if they miss;
• The Diamondbacks (96.64 percent on September 24th) would rank seventh if they miss;
• The Mets (99.80 percent on September 12th) would rank second all-time if they miss, making good on a 500-to-1 shot against.

but 1st and 3rd isn't bad.

the 2007 Rockies won 14 of their last 15 games. That isnt the Padres fault.

As for the Poll, The Angels were up by 14 games in mid august and watched Griffey, Alex Diaz and Co. storm back to win the AL West. Then for an encore they came back from 2-0 to beat the Yankees.
