Good news for Wang and hopefully the Nats. Nats gave him $2 million for basically nothing so they should get him for cheaper this year. 89 mph is a good sign and if he can still get groundballs at a ridiculous rate, Wang could be a huge help for the Nats.Ben Goessling of MASNSports.com reports that Chien-Ming Wang (shoulder) tossed two shutout innings with the Nationals' Instructional League team Tuesday.
Wang's interpreter Alan Chang told Goessling that the right-hander hit 89 mph on the radar gun and induced four groundouts in 17 pitches. "He's feeling very good now," wrote Chang. Wang signed a one-year, $2 million deal with the Nationals in February, but missed the entire 2010 season rehabbing from shoulder surgery. The Nationals are currently evaluating Wang's performance in the Instructional League before discussing a new contract with his agent Alan Nero. Wang, who turns 31 next March, is arbitration-eligible this winter.
