Question An observation turned into a question:

    Batting AVG: .241 (28th)
    Homeruns: 25 (28th)
    Walks: 100 (T-23rd)
    Stolen Bases: 21 (21st)
    Runs Scored: 145 (30th)

    Pitching ERA: 3.14 (1st)
    Opponents AVG: .236 (3rd)
    HRs Allowed: 21 (T-1st)
    Walks Allowed: 76 (1st)
    Runs Allowed: 131 (1st)

Above stats belong to the Brewers through this past sim.

While it's still early and those will probably change a lot by the end of the year, it gave me the idea for a question:

Would you rather have your team put up numbers considered middle-of-the-pack in both pitching & offensive categories, or completely dominant one way, but miserable the other? (i.e., top the league in all pitching, but dead last in the hitting categories like the Brewers. Or vice versa..)

Depends on the division. I don't think I'd want to be first and last if I'm in a tough division, such as Brown's in. It might be better off in the other Central division.

middle I suppose, but ideally at least one of "runs scored" and "runs allowed" would be in the top 10...preferably both.

Re: An observation turned into a question:

I made a living in TSSL winning the NL West with top notch pitching and shitty offense.

Of course, I didn't do anything in the playoffs until I traded my two aces and was middle of the pack in both offense and pitching.

    So there you go.

It's easier to get to average than to get to the top.

I'd rather average than completely one sided, but if it had to be completely one sided, better it be dominant pitching...

Anything can happen in the playoffs. However, in a good division, you would have never even gotten a chance to do any of that.

Re: An observation turned into a question:

Well, not one team with a better record than me is middle of the pack in both. So take what you will out of that.
I did a lot of good things as a sim league GM.

Ah, give me something clever to say here.

Re: An observation turned into a question:

Great Pitching will always trump Great hitting. Much like Great Defense will trump Great Offense. You probably wouldnt survive with offense THAT bad (except in the AL Central where everyone is pretty bad and Detroit underacheiving). You would have to hope that your pitching makes 0 mistakes in a given game and win everything 1-0 or 2-1.

"Oh, don't mind me, I'm rebuilding now" then you win at least 80 games
