"It's getting to a point in my career and in my life where I just feel there are some other avenues I want to go down," he said. "I feel I got gas in the tank but I think you should base your decision more on the motivation, do I really want to play and enjoy myself. ...
"I'm going to have fun with this and then go home to my cottage."
Quantrill never made a formal retirement announcement because he wanted to give himself a chance to come back. By December when it wasn't there, he knew it was time to move on.
"I've always been a guy that's said when I stop enjoying it as much as I have (I'll retire)," he said. "I've never played with anyone that had more fun than me, I loved the game, but I never really liked the travel, my kids are getting older and I felt like I want to be a guy that's a joy and it's a joy to go to the park."
