At some point, we have to concede to the notion that, yes the seemingly season long trade rumors did take its toll on Roy Halladay, as we haven't seen THE Roy Halladay in practically months now.
We figured he was a machine, an unstoppable complete game monster that showed no emotion ever, therefore it's hard to believe the rumor mill would have such an effect that could turn a Cy Young candidate into an overly average starting pitcher. But it has, and you can't fully fault the man. For about a month, every time his start came up, we kept saying "this could be his last with Toronto". Eventually, that's going to weigh heavily on the conscience. And results will not be what you expect from a great pitcher. Unfortunately, you can't see the rumors ending this off season either. With that said, Roy Halladay may not be Roy Halladay until the day he's finally out of Toronto, much to the chagrin of all remaining blue jay fans, it's not what you ever wanted, but it's going to happen.
Something has got to give. He lost to Paul Byrd today, that's sort of a sign.
