Shaun Marcum fanned 10 in eight innings of shutout ball to beat the Red Sox on Monday.
Judging from the strike zone, home-plate umpire Doug Eddings must have thought it was the last day of the season, not the first day of the last week. Marcum's previous high for strikeouts in 12 starts this season was six. Jason Frasor took over in the ninth and completed the two-hitter in a game that lasted 2:03. Marcum, who has a 4.92 ERA, will finish up with a start at Yankee Stadium.
I know it's the 2006 late-year Red Sox, but day-amn. What a game.
