Blue Jays left-hander Gustavo Chacin could probably make his scheduled start Saturday, but the Blue Jays have decided to err on the side of caution.
Chacin was placed on the 15-day disabled list yesterday retroactive to May 11th, the day after his last start, with a mild sprain of the ulnar collateral ligament in his left elbow and a strain of the left forearm.
Chacin is eligible to come off the disabled list May 26th while would mean the Jays would have to fill in for just one of his two missed starts with the off-days factored in.
"This is not a setback," Bart Given, assistant to GM J.P. Ricciardi said. "There is no pain. It's more of a precautionary move."
The Jays do not expect to make a corresponding move to fill Chacin's spot on the roster until today.
