Thread: Free Agency begins Sunday at Noon EST

  1. #46
I agree with crazy here. Really, I don't know why you figure this is such a big deal Lou Brown. Really, it's not like there is a huge impact player out there right now.

Really, it's not anybodys fault if a manager didn't see this thread before the deadline. I know I may lose out on a lot of my free agents just because some bastards sent there lists in at 11:57 am. (I remember somewhere somebody saying the clock here is only a minute fast. That's why I'm posting this at 7:54 P.M. and it's going to show up at 7:57)

Really though, just send in a list and you could possibly get some players that you want, that others managers didn't see.

These guys arent going to make or break a team. Most of these guys are going to probably be MLC guys anyways. No point in taking all the extra time of waiting, if someone like Pujols or ARod had been cut that could make or break a team then ya hold biddings. If there isnt a great player left after the draft or FA no point in taking the extra time. And this is coming from someone who didnt see this til after 100 pm today cause i was out on the town.

Slyder is right. Most of these players will only sign a MLC so there would be no point in bidding on them, because they refuse to sign for anything more than a MLC.

Lou, the free agent pool won't be like this every season. A lot of these guys will retire after a season when they're not signed. Eventually it dwindles itself down without our help. There won't be so much chaos in future seasons.

@crazy: You can sign them to a MLC and edit their contract later by hand.

@zito: I really don't mind that much. I just want to make sure that next time free agent asignment is not determined by who can best estimate the board's time.

I could, but I already put a ton of time into this league already. I'm not going to hundred 2 star prospects, and I don't think anybody wants to spend weeks bidding on these guys. I don't understand why this is even an issue. We're talking about guys that were either released by the team that drafted them because they didn't want them or guys that weren't drafted out of 60 rounds. IMO these players aren't worth bidding on. Do you want to pay all of your minor leaguers big league contracts? That's what would happen if we went that route.

Having ran many OOTP leagues, if someone sent offers in for 30 some odd hasbeens, I'd prolly respond with a "go **** yourself" ...but. It's just more unneeded work for Crazy, who worked like a machine on the draft.

On the flip side, it's always nice to have more than 60 players on your team. Or less than 60 since people cut players.

No no, misunderstanding (again). My English must really suck.
This was just to say that it's possible to make these guys take other contracts than just MLC.

Really, I don't want you to change anything, I just wanted to give my opinion on this and nothing more:

I think it will create problems if we continue to assign free agents on ficofise basis. If I would pay $5M for a guy but he signs for 500k because someone else was faster or times his pm better, it's just unfair and unrealistic.

Also, in my opinion, it's also unrealistic and unfair if teams can hoard talent in their minor leagues. I know, most of these guys suck badly, but some don't and might be useful as defensive replacements, pinchrunners or for tieing shoe-laces. Other may even get a talent bump.
If my benchplayer injures himself and I need someone else, I usually sign a bad free agents to help out, now I probably have to make a deal because there is nobody there remotely useful any more.
I'm just saying that signing all remaining free agents gives a team an unfair (however small it way be) advantage based on nothing more but timing and at absolutely no cost. It puts other teams, especially weaker ones, at a disadvantage. (This is also the reason why I support Rule5,MinLeaFA,Options etc., but that's another topic)

On a related note, I cannot agree that David Wells can not make an impact on a team. That being said, I don't want Wells to reenter a bidding or something like that.

These are just my two cents, nothing more.
And I promise this is the last time I post this, I just felt that I needed to clarify my position.

    And now, play ball!

Ok, I understand. What about in season free agents? E.g. when someone releases a player?
