WASHINGTON -- Just when the Padres were thinking -- and hoping -- the litany of strange injuries to hands and wrists was behind them, a ball caromed off the wall at RFK Stadium on Friday night and landed squarely on the right middle finger of their ace, Jake Peavy.
It was swollen and painful when Peavy showed up on Saturday afternoon, but he said he was able to grip the ball and had no intention or desire to push back his start on Sunday in the series finale against the Nationals.
