    Franchise Players

Ok.... I just had an idea that we can use for the league. Everyone always complains about one of their best players dying. I think I may have found a way to give some sort of protection for that. This is still a raw idea, so I need your input on how it will be structured. The idea is that at the end of each season, every team will have the chance to submit a list of franchise players. Possibly 1-3 players per team. If the player dies, then there wouldbe a way to "salvage" that player. Possibly returning them to their for at the end of last season, or some other way. The caveat could be that the franchise players cannot be traded while they are tagged as franchise players, and the franchise tags can only be removed at the end of the season. I think this is an idea that could work, but like I said, I need ideas on how to structure it. What do you guys think?

i love it crazy. you are full of really good ideas. i think it should work exactly how you have it structured in that post. there's 2 ways you could work it, now that i think about it.
    1) each team has 1 franchise tags at the beginning of the season. like a bank almost. if someone dies, a GM can choose to use their tag and fix the player. if they run out, and someone else dies, they can't fix them.
    2) each team has 2 or 3 franchise tags that can be placed on a single player before the season. if that player loses talent at any point during the season, even multiple times, that player is fixed. the catch is that if a player dies that isn't franchised BEFORE the season, the GM can't do anything about it. so you gotta pick wisely

#2 is exactly what I was thinking. That way you can protect the players that you value the most, but not just any player. For example, I don't want to lose my #1 draft pick, so I franchise him. I don't want GMs to be able to fix just any player. I also think that if you make it so frnachise players can't be traded, then that will cause GMs to really think about who they want to protect, and use those tags wisely.

I agree with you Dave. I'm usually against plans to change injuries and talent losses. Although, I think if it is structured well... it might be a plus for the league. It also might be a good idea to have some sort of incentive for not using any of your franchise tags.

Too many incentives, (IMHO and no offense, bud) will actually make the league less appealing...

I honestly think that the supplemental draft and all is already taking it pretty far...

I can handle the idea of small rewards... 1 or 2 talent point boost... spending 'points' to maybe change a career ender to a season ender.... or something else fairly small.... but the bigger it gets, the less appealing it gets

Well...we don't have any incentives set up yet for the next couple of seasons. As far as making a career ender a season ender... that is something that could be a result of using a franchise tag.

Well, I think another thing you should take into account in "restoring" players who died is their age. Say a player crashes, if he's 25 or below, he goes back to where he was before. If he's 25-30 or so, he gets boosted up, but still loses SOME talent(a smaller amount than death caused), and if he's older than say 35, he can't be fixed. Does that make sense?

    Re: Franchise Players

It does make sense. I don't think tagging franchise players should even be allowed for players over 35. Also, if people are taggign 35 year olds, then we are allowing too many tags. lol I think 2 or 3 franchise tags max...3 might even be too many, I'm not sure.

I agree. Just to say that if someone tries to prevent an older star from declining for a long period of time....say they try to prevent a 40 something year old Randy Johnson from losing ANY talent....he shouldn't be allowed to be restored. Ya know?

    Re: Franchise Players

The number of players that die in their prime or the number of top flight prospects that keel over and stop breathing is unrealistic Dave-o. Until ootp6.5 busts out the reasons like PLAYER A was busted for steroids or drugs, or was in a near fatal car crash, the talent drops that go unexplained are not realistic.

Does the new ootp have something involving steroids though? Cause that's slightly amusing.

It has suspensions for steroids, which is hilarious, but i'm not sure about talent drops. It also has suspensions for brawls in games
