Question on the basic concept of sim leagues.

For those that don't know, I'm new to this whole thing.

I understand the basic concept. I'm the GM of the Padres and I control everything Kevin Towers/Sandy Alderson do for the real Padres.

My question is how, exactly, is this conducted?

From looking at the other Sim League forums I have a general idea but I'd rather not assume.

We post how we'd like our rosters set in here?

I assume trades are discussed via PM and then brought to the commish (General in our case) if agreed upon?

Does two GMs agreeing on a trade guarantee it can happen? Or does the OOTP thing reject trades it thinks is unfair?

How long do the seasons last? Or are they just quickly simulated after everyone's rosters are set? If not, how does that work?

I might have more questions, but I'd appreciate anything else anyone might be able to help me on.

As far as team management goes, refer to this thread:

    http://www.strike3forums.com/forums/...eague-faq.html

I'll probably wind up using that exact rules and regulations thread, with mission's permission.

No. We PM them to the League comissioner, with, as the FAQ General posted, our changes and callups, and etc.

I'm not sure if General has figured out the hierarchy, but often the Commish delegates a person to handle the intricacies of trades before they are brough to the TC (as with TSSL and TPSL, not sure about S3SL, usually I trade with mission )

Usually the trades are processed through a Trade Council, consisting of OOTP veterans and/or those who help run the league. Trades pass, but in the event they don't the TC addresses it with the members and tries to help the sides get the deal right.

Seasons can be anywhere from 10-15 "sims" which are a block of games simmed after rostes are set. Obviously, simming less times gives GMs less control over injuries and streaks, and simming more increases work for the Commish. I believe Providence has a set number (12?)

After that come the new breed of playoff sims, where starters are usually posted in a thread (although for an indepth analysis, you'd have to ask someone who makes the playoffs often )

Fire away mate. You might as well post them here, or you could PM me if you please, but I'm always willing to help as much as I can.

I personally wouldn't bother much with trading with others, especially if I'm a newbie. The more experience they get, the more they want to win, the more pathetic the trade blocks get.

    Very true.

I traded a lot is S3SL when I first got there and mired in last for 5-6 years.

    They are just filler players.

Not to mention I added the fact that most of the guys were garbage but they were dealable easily if one had interest.

I forgot you were judge, jury, and executioner of trade blocks.

    Rarely are block players dealt.

Not that you'll even be trading with many people to begin with, since trades are typically done by the same handful in every league on a consistent basis.

Although as we've seen, some newcomers get ****ed by being stupid (me) and some come in and rip off a few people based off of brilliant development and shrewd analysis (PROV)

I wouldn't put it past Leo to be a Prov guy. I mean, the ones who trade dedicate a lot of time typically to sim leagues.

is that supposed to be an insult or a compliment? It's too early in the morning to tell...

who did I rip off? bjd for Harden would be about it looking back on it. I made many, many fair deals in TPSL and TSSL and many of those resulted in the other team getting the better end. And I've also dealt many quality players (Harden, Haren twice, Street, Simmons, and others...) Look at my block here; I've got 3 5.0 star prospects on there and 2 of those are pitchers.

Prov people give me a hard time (yes you jpants, and yes I called you out) about the trade blocks. But ive dealt Felix twice, Francis Morris, Johan Santana, Ollie Sanchez, Alex Rodriguez, and David Wright (that deal is pretty much done) and had Ramon Crespo on the block for 2 years and no one wanted him until I resigned him. And in this League the only guys I wont deal is Kendrick, Bay, and my Rotation.

True...I mean, your deals are even, but you did get some beast specs which honestly is just good scouting.

It's a compliment Prov, I'm not trying to ruffle feathers.

True, I also dealt you ARod for a kings ransom which is part of the reason why I'm near the top of the AL (hopefully)

You're a great guy to deal with, but I've only seen you manhandle Slyder. I mean, I might not be looking hard, and I'm not the guy to talk, everyone slapped me on the ass when I joined S3SL.

You're problem was that you were to eager to do something to your team. Which was my problem early on in S3SL. You sit back and watch how mission operates, and that's pretty much the way you want to run a team. He doesn't force the issue, no matter how many times he wanted to move someone.

That ARod deal actually helped me to be near that top of the AL as well but I had to trade him for that to happen. Hopefully the same thing will happen with dealing Felix will have the same effect. I'm generally really good to deal with when I have an idea of what I want and not just inquiring to see what it would take to get a person.

Exactly...I was sort of ****ed, I dealt my team, had nothing to look foward to, didn't pay attention, let specs wallow in their own feces.

Then I realized I had to call people up, via Saber yelling at me. It took that good kick in the ass, and now I think I'm an OK GM. It didn't look good for a long time...I'll never live down Oscar Morabito.

Yeah, I've always enjoyed dealing with you, in our 3 or 4 deals. No BS.
