As most of you involved can remember, SBSL was a fan favorite that was run by Crazy in the good old days. However, at one point or another, Crazy left for unspecified or unknown reasons. Be that as it may, SBSL was always the most "out there" league. It was open-minded and open to experimentation. I've always enjoyed SBSL, and this brings me to this point:
This league will NOT be like the other 3 on the site. It's a lot more focused on entertainment as opposed to realism. There will be "different" draft classes, create-a-players, etc. I am entertaining the possibility of allowing people to relocate teams. Chances are, there will be some kind of compensation for free agents, but I have yet to decide what it will be.
This does NOT mean that this will not be a realistic league. Before I went ahead and opened it to the public, I ran 10 simulated seasons to see if it would somehow go "off the deep end"; it did not. I have fiddled with the player development/creation modifiers to my liking, and I'm glad to say that most stars will no longer start dying at 32 and become useless by 36. It will not be commonplace, but I have tried to make this league more tolerable to the 34 and up crowd, so expect a player or two performing at a high-caliber rate at the age of 39-40. The general amount of homeruns, wins by a pitcher, innings pitched, and hits (among many other stats) have been deemed appropriate by me. This took a couple of times, but in the first 3 seasons I simmed, there were 3 50-HR guys, with 56 being the high; there were upwards of 8-10 20-win pitchers, with 22 being the high, and the lowest ERA I remember was in the 2.35 range for a starter. To me, that's relatively realistic. Whether or not it will be that way when we start is debatable, but I am open to suggestions on the league settings if anything should go out-of-whack.
Finally, the most important part of this league, to me, is giving back to S3F. In my mind, the sim leagues here have a tendency to "swallow" posters, restricting them from posting on other parts of the site. As part of joining this league, each GM makes a commitment to posting regularly on the remaining parts of Strike 3 Forums. That means quality posting on the site, not one liner posts to shut me up. I'm hardly a fascist about this thought, so I won't place quotas, but do please try and contribute to the rest of the site. It'll help everyone in the long run and it hardly takes a lot of effort. Everyone has opinions, so get to sharing them.
Thanks for reading this, and hope you decide to join up!
