You can only use extension money for extending your own contracts. It never carries over to free agent money. So if you had a ton left over for extensions, and you weren't in the red after 2007, you're probably going to have even more for extensions.

And from what I've seen, a good general estimation of FA money is your extension money from the end of last year - arby costs. And Extension Money is essentially FA cash + ending contracts
