The USMNT pulled a 2011 Red Sox, losing their final qualifying game to the sorriest team in their group, while getting no help from their archrivals ahead of them in the standings (Mexico and Costa Rica bent over for Honduras and Panama, respectively, allowing the latter two to clinch at least a playoff spot).
