The two key themes here are scheduling for the week and momentum. The Yankees have the advantage on both ends. The Yankees have a lot of momentum after doing so well AT Boston and they are ready to go on a winning streak. The pitching might not be good enough overall, but is for this week. The Sox have a four game series against the White Sox in Chicago this week, which will be very tough.

The Red Sox will still be in first at the end of the week. Sure, they have a four game series with the White Sox, but before that they play the Devil Rays. Even if they get 2 of 3 they will have some momentum going into the Whit Sox series. The Yankees play the Rangers, at Arlington, and the Angels, at Anaheim. They are lucky if they get 3 wins.

The yankees welcome back Kevin Brown. That in its self should be the death of chance for the yankees to climb to first, at least tonight. The red sox have a bullpen full of discombobulated pieces, while the yanks have Flash Gordon and Mariano Rivera. Yankees will be on top before you can blink and count the number of times Terry Francona spits.

++++ and an extra + for the combobulated!

The Pistons and Larry Brown reached an agreement on a buy-out today. This marks the end of a coaching career in Detroit for Larry Brown, which included back-to-back Finals appearances the past 2 years, with a victory in 2004. The Pistons head-coaching job is now open, for the likes of Flip Saunders. Keep that in mind as you answer this: what do you see the Pistons doing next year in terms of the play-offs? Around the Horn to Slyder.

With the team they have they will have to be one of the favorites in the East with the Heat needing a lot of pieces to surround the new dynamic duo. Very few coaches are as good as Larry Brown, but you have to believe that he was the source of a lot of problems with that team. With Flip Saunders you get a fresh face and a likely renew of the fires that burned when they won it all.

I see the Pistons as being a better team now without the distractions and another ring.

They make the playoffs as the two seed, winning the Central. They will win 51 or 52 games and advance to the Eastern Conference finals, but the Heat will beat them. I think they will have another solid year, but without Brown they wont be able to win the tough series.

Oh, they will definitely be good again and will certainly make the playoffs, because the team simply has a lot of talent. The differential lies in how they will fare once they get to the playoffs. Without the fiery and passionate Brown giving them energy, the team will not go as far in the playoffs. They are the type of team that could easily be seen as a 1st round playoff disappointment, even if they have higher expectations coming in.

I think the heat need less than the pistons, Slyder. The only reason Detroit made it to the finals was because Wade got hurt. Detroit's backcourt is one dimensional, that is, shoot the ball and hope it goes in and Rasheed Wallace is supposed to be this rough, bad boy enforcer- instead he was more of a lost puppy in the finals. They have limited depth since Carlos Arroyo seems to act like he's playing soccer more times than basketball, and Elden Campbell is running on his 22nd engine. If Detroit focuses on its real talent, Tayshaun Prince, they will at least make it to the semi's before Miami Shaquifies them.

Next topic: Jon Garland and Chris Carpenter both picked up their 14th wins today, leading their respective leagues. If the season ended today, who would be your Cy Young for the AL and NL? Around the Horn to Guybrush.
