Kind of surprised, thought they'd take Pioli instead but as a Pats fan I'm happy cause it looks like now he'll be staying.

I think this is a good hire by Cleveland. Mangini may rub people the wrong way but he was the fall guy for Favre in NY this year. Don't know how this affects their GM hunt hopefully Rob Ryan gets a chance to implement his d now and show the NFL he's a better DC than what Al allowed him to be.

I like how one guy can get fired and get a job 3 days later in the NFL. Retreads all the damn time. Did they even try and interview anyone else? Really?
As for the hire, "Mangenius" needs to do more than just have one good year and a decent year that he threw away with his bad decision making down the stretch.

Leo,
I'm sure you understand the frustration that one guy can get fired and get a HC job three days later yet another guy that has a better track record (Green to name a few) has to wait years to get another chance. I just dont see where Mangini earned a chance to get a job that quickly after he was fired. Its insane.

Mangini's had 2 winning seasons.
His one losing season was just bad enough to drag down his overall record.
I think he's highly deserving of a 2nd chance.

I agree with that but he isn't that great to get a job 3 days after he was hired. Thats what annoys me more than anything.

So, you'd feel better had the Browns sat on their asses and hired him next month?
What difference does it make?
I don't think he should have been fired in New York to begin with.

I've been torn on this issue. I think he's a great head coach, and I think Brett Favre deserves most of the blame for the collapse of the season. But then I'm reminded how much talent Mangini was handed this offseason, and he failed to make the playoffs with it.
But in the end if I were the Jets front office I would have kept him. He's an excellent head coach in the long run, and I wouldn't be surprised if he has success somewhere. Although I doubt it comes with the Browns. I just feel like that franchise is destined for eternal mediocrity.

You would think the Browns had enough of the Coach B tree by now.
I just think they rushed to hire a guy and didnt give it thought. If they go out and win 10 games next year then I'll admit I'm wrong. But I think that there were some guys out there with playoff teams that could be a good hire as well.

The Mangina needs to stay away from personnel decisions. He tried to force the team to play a 3-4 defense when that side of the roster was best suited for a 4-3. He had his fingerprints all over trading pash rusher John Abraham, a missile in the middle in Jonathan Vilma, and hoping that Dwayne Robertson would hold up as a nosetackle (he didn't).
