Mike Shanahan is out of the running as New York Jets coach - New York Jets Football - NJ.com

In addition to Bill Cowher, Mike Shanahan will also NOT be coaching the NY Jets next season. At this point, we're clearly(hopefully) going to have to settle for a first time head coach(since I HATE the idea of bringing in Marty Schottenheimer), so the number one priority should be Steve Spagnolo of the Giants. I guess that puts Rex Ryan as second option. Either way I see a step backwards coming for the Jets.

Jets will look to a guy who will make a splash in the NY Media. Schottenheimer's been a winner during the regular season EVERYWHERE he's been. I would love to get someone with half his resume in Oakland. You could do much worse than Marty just look at Oakland's choice since Flores with Gruden being the exception.

Yes, Marty wins REGULAR season games, but he has never done anything in the playoffs. In NY, regular season wins mean nothing if you don't win in the playoffs. It would make headlines to steal the up and coming defensive coordinator from the cross town rival.
