    NCAA Lane Kiffin to Syracuse?

I figured the local clique would be interested in this rumor.

CollegeFootballTalk.com - KIFFIN TO THE ‘CUSE?

As the Syracuse football program continues to disintegrate before our eyes, there’s a rumor of a fresh-faced NFL coach who might land in upstate New York before too long.

Per the Buffalo News, Raiders coach Lane Kiffin has been linked to the likely opening in the land of orange. The current head coach at Syracuse is Greg Robinson, a former NFL assistant coach.

With Kiffin due to participate in a conference call with Buffalo reporters as the Raiders plan to take on the Bills, there could be a question or two about the situation.

Rampant media reports indicated that Kiffin would be fired by the Raiders as soon as Wednesday. On Tuesday, Adam Schefter of NFL Network reported that Kiffin is safe for now. Even if he doesn’t get fired in the short term, he widely is regarded as the coach least likely to return to his current team in 2009.

In the offseason, Kiffin supposedly was in the mix for the vacancy at Arkansas. As we heard it over at PFT, he was pissed that he didn’t get the position. Kiffin denied that he was under consideration for the job.
Just like Nick Saban did as to Alabama two years ago.

haha yeah it is. like from 2 or 3 days ago. i hope it happens, i really want to see him here. i know everyone says he's unproven at the college or NFL level, which is true. but i think he was put in a bad spot in Oakland. Honestly, I think he's done the best job he possibly can there, and Al Davis is just an antagonistic idiot. I would really like to see him given like 4 years to rebuild the program here.

He couldn't make us any worse than G-Rob. We only have 4 verbal commits for next year, and 2 of them are WEAK verbals.

a weak verbal means they're interested and the school is currently their top choice, but they are still seriously considering other options.

Maybe, but considering he's already off to a rocky start at Tennessee (sorry, pun was too easy) and Doug Marrone is doin work at SU, I'm very pleased with how it all turned out.

You can't say Marrone has done work when he has yet to win a game... and he recruited a QB out of the ISL. As an alum of an ISL school, you shouldn't be recruiting ISL football players for DI lol

Work means more than winning a game. He's actually got people interested in the team. He's recruited 4 guys for NEXT year, he's brought back tradition, he's gotten rid of players who don't want to win, and he's inspired the players to start training to be winners. That's doing work in my book.

He is a WVU fan and Brown is a better QB, but he goes to ND and before you say ohh Syracuse won, let me remind you that Manti Te'o was at that game, saw the players being hit my snowballs but yet ND football tradition and team is that good he came here anyways over USC. When Marrone can get a recruit anywhere near as good you come back and talk to us. Sorry but ISL football players don't get it done

    Re: Lane Kiffin to Syracuse?

Well, Brown is not a better QB. That's kind of ridiculous. But there's not going to be much of a drop off and... why are we talking about WVU anyways? I don't think there's much disputing that WVU has had a better program since the McNabb days.

As a WVU fan, though, I'd like Syracuse to be respectable, so it will actually be worth considering a rivalry again. Not to mention the Big East really needs 'Cuse to get its act together, especially with the potential decline of Louisville. Cincinnati looks to be on the way up, and WVU and Pitt are solid. Not sure what the future looks like for Rutgers and South Florida, but I'm optimistic. UConn isn't bad. So, quite honestly, I'd just like Syracuse to quit being the weak link of an otherwise upswinging conference.
