    CBS sues NFL Players over fantasy football - NFL - Yahoo! Sports

    MINNEAPOLIS (AP)—CBS has filed a federal lawsuit to establish its right to use without charge the statistics that underlie fantasy football leagues.

    The lawsuit filed Wednesday in Minneapolis by the network’s online operation claims that the NFL Players Association has threatened to sue the company if it does not pay licensing fees for the statistics.

    CBS seeks a court ruling saying that “the Players Association may not seek to control the use of player statistics in fantasy games and may not continue to extract money from CBS Interactive for the use of publicly available football statistics.”
    Well this is quite odd but it somewhat makes sense. I don't know really what to say. Who's next the NBA?

    Easy answer for this. No more free fantasy sports. As much as it would suck, that could solve the money issue.

    Screw that.

    Why should they have to pay the NFL for the use of statistics they post on their general sports sites anyways?

    And what kind of message does this send?

    If I run a fantasy league at home with my family and do all the figuring myself should I have to pay the NFL for using the statistics I can find for free on the internet to run it?

    How many people here actually pay to play? I don't think if I was even rich, I'd pay to play.
