An interesting NBA thought for the future...

This is just something I noticed in ESPN.com's Chad Ford's NBA draft grades under the Nets' section...and I'd like your opinions on it.

Analysis: The Nets had a really big day. First they moved Richard Jefferson in a deal that brought them Yi Jianlian and something that might be more important: cap relief. As we know, LeBron James can become a free agent in 2010, and his friend Jay-Z, a Nets co-owner, will be preparing the welcome mat for King James.

Do you guys think this is a possibility? And would it be good or bad for the NBA for arguably the most marketable player in the whole NBA to move teams? He's currently a hero and a god in Cleveland. I'd LOVE for him to come play in New Jersey, it might even get me to go to a game or two (and I've never been to an NBA game), but I'm still not sure it's good for the league as a whole. I'd like to hear everyone else's opinion on this.

Also, I realize you don't follow the NBA, but this has been pretty well speculated upon for a while. Donnie Walsh says his goal with the Knicks is to get under the salary cap by 2010 as well. Not only LeBron, but Chris Bosh and Dwayne Wade among others are sit to hit FA that year.

I can't imagine that Danny Ferry (or whoever replaces him as G.M. of the Cavs by 2009-10) won't do everything in his power to keep Lebron in Cleveland forever. I think the Knicks and the Nets are more likely to roll out the welcome mat for Marvin Williams.

Lebron and big market are made for each other, unfortunately, New York or "Brooklyn" offer as much teammate help at this point as Cleveland. I really have no idea what New York will look like, perhaps David Lee is still there, Wilson Chandler, Gallinari, etc.

Brooklyn's case, Sister Lopez, Chairman Yi, Devin Harris, and a gaggle of 7 footers. That can't inspire confidence. You can easily change Yi's name to Zydrunas Ilgauskas and Lopez to Anderson Varajao or Drew Gooden or Joe Smith or Cherokee Parks. He just doesn't have a point guard who's a walking coloring book.

I think Lee will be gone, I see the Knicks trying to trade him for a young point guard (Raymond Felton?) now that Danilo is in NY.

Lee could net them something good for the back court. I think they should exhaust all efforts to trade the other "players" before dealing him, though.

Possible routes they could take:


1. Eddy Curry and 3 years worth of double DD size bras to the Lakers for Jordan Farmar. Reason: Lakers need someone inside that literally cannot be moved. Knicks get a PG that's young and shockingly been on the big stage in college and the pros. And survived Kobe.

2. Stephon Marbury, Jared Jeffries, and tickets to "Hancock" to the Rockets for Chuck Hayes, Luther Head, Aaron Brooks, and some contract guy. Rockets get a point guard that's more insane than Alston, a forward that a few years ago majored in defense, and the knicks just get some young and cheap guys. Head shoots the three though, that's a positive?

3. Marbury and Quentin Richardson to Dallas for Keith Van Horn's other contract, every draft pick they have left from now till 2011, and Antoine Wright. Dallas does this because Cuban just now realized Kidd is 67 and playing on the Olympic team while the knicks pretty much get nothing but cap space and a lighter psychiatric ward bill.

No way the Lakers would agree to that deal, they already have Gasol, Bynum, and Turiaf off the bench.

Eddy Curry would be a good fit, if you forget that he doesn't play defense nor grab rebounds.

I think Danny Ferry might go for Marbury for Wally Szczerbiak and Delonte West in yet another attempt to supply help for Lebron.

I'd take anything for Marbury at this point, and I think West is a serviceable point guard. Although I can't imagine getting more than that for "Starbury."

Third person in the world to recognize Turiaf as a player.

They really don't have much size off the bench, if they got rid of Radmanovich and Chris Mihm to make room, Curry is a nice scorer to bring in off the bench. Plus no one knows if Bynum still has legs, rumor has it he sold them on eBay to a Boston fan.

Turiaf is a cheap defensive player, and Curry is an overpaid slow piece of shit. The Zen Master would hate him.
