It's not as easy to tank in the other sports.
Marshall: MILSWANCAs?
Ted: Wait, I can get this. Mothers I'd like to sleep with and never call again.
Barney: Circle gets the square!

Great point Zito! I like the idea, don't like the theatrics.
How is it easier to tank in basketball than other sports?

Simple, look at what the heat did.
Their rotation ended up featuring the likes of Earl Barron, Chris Quinn, and half a dozen of NDBL's finest.

Oh, and their "coach" focused more on college basketball games than his own team.

And teams in other sports are incapable of starting their scrubs at the end of the season?

I'm with Hollywood on this one.
And even if zito is right and a team can tank easier, what is the purpose of not giving the worst team the first pick? Just because a team can tank easier doesn't mean it goes the other way around just as easily. Give the worst team the first pick and go backwards, just like every other sport. It's that simple. Teams tank because of poor management and coaching, and poor play on the court, not because they didn't get a high enough draft pick. And if a team tanks, well then they get rewarded with a high pick the next draft. That's how every other sport does it, it works, and that's how it should be done in basketball.
Otherwise, teams like the Knicks stay in the celler forever. And that's no fun for a fan, and likewise it's bad for the sport.
That's just it. The worst team wouldn't necessarily get the pick. It would go to a team that tanked.
No, if a team tanks that means they are trying to be the worst to gain more chances of getting the #1 pick. Memphis has far less talent than the Heat. Again, tanking allows teams that aren't the worst to be the worst.
GF, I don't think you're getting what we mean by "tanked"
We're talking about losing intentionally for the purpose of getting the worst record, and thereby the 1st pick.
But my 2 questions for KOZ are
1) Why are teams not able to tank in other sports?
and
2) If a draft lottery is supposed to be a deterrant to bad teams tanking why are the Heat still doing it with the system in place?

I don't like the lottery system, only because you're assuming teams will tank. And clearly, it doesn't prevent tanking, as we saw the Heat tank this year. I think they have to go with the straightforward format used by other leagues and just police teams to prevent tanking.
