Yeah, I think that 5th rounder was part of the Starks trade (where NE got Starks and Zona's 5th for a third and NE's 5th).

I have no problem with it, since this draft doesn't seem deep by any means. If they still have all their 2006 picks, that means they are up to 9, their base 7 and an extra 3rd/4th.
Although, it's interesting how the teams project the other team's future. The Patriots had to give a 5th rounder that was 3 picks higher and a 6th rounder to get DET's 4th rounder in '06 while Philly only had to give up the 5th round pick (3 picks lower) to get INDY's 4th in '06.
Pats have a pick coming up. I have a feeling it's going to be defense.
Meanwhile, Philly only had to move down 16 spots (in the 4th/5th round) to get Dallas' 4th rounder next year.
As for the Pats, I think it could be anything outside of a kicker or punter. I would hope they'd grab a position of need if a guy is there, but Belichick doesn't draft LB...period. He prefers to draft the positions that require less experience and teaching to perform at (which isn't LB, but more like the trenches).
Heh, they listed a lot of former Pats in the 5th round as gems. Harrison, Coates, Meggett.
Some gems in recent years that come to mind that Pats drafted late was Samuel CB in 4th round, and David Givens WR in the 7th. Not to mention Tom Brady in the 6th round.
Jeez. All they are going to do is talk about Clarett.
Jarvis Green has shown flashes, Dan Koppen has been one of the best young OL in football as a 5th rounder. The Pats are very good late in the draft. Even Dexter Reid, inspite of his Eagles' blunder in SB XXXIX, has shown a lot of promise.
Koppen has been very good.
But one guy as earlier I mentioned was Samuel the CB. I saw this guy first hand a couple of summers ago when I went to the Patriots training camp. This guy was fast, and was amazing the people around me. He's a great young CB for the Pats.
Samuel's a very nice tool to have, especially when dealing with Earthwind Moreland.

Seems like Hawthorn is really slipping. 3 more picks. Who knows if Cardinals will even take him.Originally Posted by Cardinal Optimist

Nonetheless a big guy. I'm sure SD will have fun grooming him into a decent OL.
