    Pardon the Interruption (4/15)

Pardon the interruption, but I'm Tony Kornheiser. Wilbon and I passed out, so instead of starting at 7, we start at 5 till midnight. Wilbon, why'd you pass out?

Wilbon, you probably drank yourself into a drunken stupor and knocked yourself out with a beer bottle.

Anyway, welcome to the show, my little minions. Today, Wilbon and I yap about everything from Barry Bonds to beer and to John Smoltz.

We start the day off with, who else, Barry Bonds. He's batting a chill .167, and has yet to hit a home run. Do you see him catching Ruth this year, and if you do, when?

There have been reports that he has 10 to 12 bone chips in his elbow and hes going to play until it blows out. I think its 50/50 on the chance he passes Ruth right now. The bigger question becomes how many games and ABs will he get to catch Ruth. Pitchers are starting to challenge him again unlike cowering away in the last 3 seasons.

You raise a good point with the bone chips, which leads me to pmy point: He will NOT, EVER, catch Babe Ruth. He'll get greedy and hit maybe 3-4 HRs this season, and then will collapse after hitting HR number 5, and will not be able to round the bases. He will then announce his retirement, and everyone will forget Barry Bonds ever existed.

    What's next Wilbon?

Usually when you have a 1 run lead in the 9th and have Mariano Rivera on the mound, You think the games over, game in hand. Not tonight as the Twins came back with 2 runs in the bottom of the 9th to win the game 6-4. The Twins also didnt endear themselves after blowing the game for Santana to lead to this mess. The Yanks stand at 5-7 and last in the AL East. The Twins are 6-5 with their 5th straight win. Are the Twins that damn good, or is the Yanks that bad?

Neither Wilbon. Being the fairweather Yankee fan that I am, I was watching that particular game. The Morneau hit was a lucky one, a broken bat single just over Cano. 9/10 times its an out, and we praise Rivera. This happened to be the 1/10 times that it IS a hit. Just like game 7 in the 2001 WS.

    *shudders*

Do you think Rivera's getting old, is that it?

Well talking to another Twins fan earlier and seeing the game. Ron Gardenhire wasnt the smartest guy in the stadium last night either. Crain on back to back days was a bad idea. He should have taken Lirano in that situation. Rivera is getting old but hes still a top 10 closer right now. So im with you right now its only freaking April for gods sakes.

What you got now Tony K?

AL definitely got weak with the switch up in the divisions. You got Anh. in the AL West, Vancouver being a darkhorse. You got Cleveland in the AL Central. While Baltimore has a great team, and Savannah, IMO, will win the AL East. AL is difficult for me, only because Cleveland, Balt., and Sav. are pretty good teams. I think it'll end up being Cle. and Balt. in the AL Conf. Championship, with Cle. going onto the WS.

Now, for the NL. It's pretty darn difficult. You got ATL in the NL East. Milw., Phi., STL in the NL Central. And, nobody in the NL West. Milw. is last years champ, but I just don't see them going to the world series again. While, ATL will end up choking in the playoffs. STL is way too young to be in the world series right now and probably won't make the playoffs. Though I do believe STL will win the world series for the next few seasons, just not this year. So, I predict Philly in the world series representing the NL.

A Cle-Phi world series could be exciting.

How do you feel about winning the AL East then being shipped off to that brutal NL Central? Do you have beef with the Commish at all?
