Rourke and Rockwell are the Iron Man 2 Villains!

Mickey Rourke (The Wrestler) and Sam Rockwell (Frost/Nixon) are in talks to star as the villains in Marvel Studios' Iron Man 2, being directed by Jon Favreau from a script by Justin Theroux, according to Variety and The Hollywood Reporter.

THR says that Rourke would play a tattooed Russian heavy named Ivan who becomes a man with deadly, technologically enhanced coils. Variety adds that Rourke would play the Crimson Dynamo. "He's considered to be an evil version of Iron Man because he battles the superhero in a nuclear-powered suit of armor," says the trade.

Rockwell would play Justin Hammer, a multibillionaire businessman and a rival of industrialist Tony Stark, AKA Iron Man, being played by a returning Robert Downey Jr.

Rourke and Rockwell would be joining a cast that also includes the returning Gwyneth Paltrow and Don Cheadle, who is replacing Terrence Howard.

Another part -- one for Stark's assistant Natasha -- is still open.

The project is eyeing a spring start in Manhattan Beach. Paramount will release the movie May 7, 2010.

Yeah, the more I think about it I'm really not worried, Don Cheadle is a terrific actor and will do fine.

As for Rourke, it's an interesting choice...I don't wanna jump one way or the other but after watching The Wrestler, the man can ****ing act...plus he was badass in Sin City. So hopefully it's a smart move.

I'm not arguing that Cheadle isn't a good actor, I just thought Howard was perfect for that role. But we shall see. I probably shouldn't judge without seeing him do it first.

It will be fun to see the new villans. Overall, I'm REALLY pumped for this movie

I'm very concerned that the release date on this thing is still May 2010...I think the film should have 3 years in between. I'm obviously looking forward to IM2 a ton but I just don't want the project to be rushed. Here's hoping Marvel gets it right again.

As long as the script is solid, I don't think it will be a problem. The only thing that could hurt the film is if the script sucks.

I get more excited yet concerned with every announcement here...the cast looks awesome, but I don't want this to turn into Spider-Man 3 either.

I'd say it looks more like Batman Begins.. Hammer being a background villain like Falcone and the Black Widow is a mainstay in the comics, she doesn't have to be featured heavily. She's a thorn in Nick Fury's side as much as she is Stark's, could just be something setup for the Avengers movie or a Fury movie.

I hope a Fury movie is on it's way. Always liked the character, and the development of S.H.E.I.L.D and Nick in Iron Man makes me hope for something good.

Samuel L. Jackson and an eye patch, that's meant to be a movie somehow. He'd be able to cross that off his 100 goals list, since he's already taken care of being eaten by a genetic enhanced shark, went with a platinum blond hair-do, got to dress as a Nazi in a comic book film, and fought snakes ..on ..a plane..
