NBC wasn't expected to announce it until next month, but word has leaked to Fox News that Jimmy Fallon is set to take Conan O'Brien's job as host of "Late Night" in 2009 when O'Brien takes over "The Tonight Show" from Jay Leno, who is leaving as host in May, 2009.

Fox News' Roger Friedman writes:

There's much debate about letting Leno leave NBC etc., but right now let's just concentrate on Jimmy. He's the perfect successor to Conan and should have just as big an audience when he takes the reins. Fallon is one of those great underrated performers. This should be the right milieu for him.

Fallon, who recently married producer Nancy Juvonen, is said to be thrilled and ready, if not a little scared, about taking Conan's desk. He still has to pick a producer and a band, among other things.

Fow News eh? Well now I have a hard time believing that shit! I hate Jimmy Fallon if its true! All he did was laugh on SNL with Horacio Sanz or however you spell that waste of space's name instead of performing the skit. Gay,gay,gay!

Yeah but Tina Fey was more memorable as the co-anchor of Weekend Update. None of his movies have been especially good (almost Famous does not count since he had a bit part) and I think the only skit that stands out from SNL featuring Fallon was that one where he and Tracy Morgan and some others did those singing bits.

Not exactly the greatest choice but no one really expected Conan to be so popular, who knows

Conan went to Harvard. Where did Fallon go? Where's Norm MacDonald? He is the best guest ever on these type shows so why not make him host? Not like he's doing anything. Maybe NBC is still holding a grudge.

Norm MacDonald is probably the 2nd most overrated comedic actor in the business.

2nd only to Will Farrell

Dane Cook is more overrated than Norm. Norm's a second rate guy anyways, he's relegated to skits on the Tonight Show. He's not even the voice of Death anymore! (Family Guy)

I...I...I can't believe the blasphemy that is happening on this thread...Will Ferrel and Norm McDonald are DEFINITELY not overrated, especially Norm. All the Jimmy Fallon comments aside...how can you possibly say that Horatio Saenz is bad?? The all-star SNL cast included Saenz, Fallon, Will Ferrel, Adam Sandler, Tina Fey, and Norm McDonald. Every one of those guys is extremely talented and very very funny.

Horacio and Fallon did nothing but crack each other up. I do that with my friends and it wouldn't make for good TV. I love Will Ferrell but he needs to stop making movies for a while. He's got Ben Stiller and Jack Black disease. Too many movies that are carbon copies of the same one. Making 45 of the same movies being releases in a 2 year span is horrible!

I agree with the Will Ferrel movie thing. But I thought it was funny when Horacio and Jimmy made each other laugh. That was hysterical. That's why it's funny when you do it with your friends. It's also funny for those guys. They're human too. And they're funny even when they're not laughing, it's just refreshing I think to see that these guys make more than audiences laugh, they make themselves laugh too. Some of the best skits are the ones where the guys can't stop laughing themselves.

Will Farrell has his moments but he's overrated (re: doesn't necessarily suck, per se) because people talk about him like he's one of the funniest in the business, which couldn't be further from the truth.

You want to hear some "blasphemy"? Anchorman sucked.

As for Norm MacDonald, perhaps I'm being a bit rough on the guy because his Weekend Update routine was rather bland and unfunny and that's what I most remember him for.

It didn't help that I was sore that Kevin Nealon was no longer doing it.
