Happy 4th of July everyone!
Burgers, bratwurst, hot dogs, beer, soda.... getting your hand blown off to satisfy that almost primal desire to see something get blown up, you can't get much more American than that.

My favorite holiday by far.
Happy Fourth of July.

Happy 4th Of July to Everyone
I prefer President Bush's "Mission Accomplished Day" as a national holiday to the 4th of July.
My 4th of July sucked, it was shitty cold windy weather at the beach club all day so I didn't make any money...happy Independence Day nonetheless

Ah, give me something clever to say here.
It just started to rain pretty hard around where I live. The fireworks may be cancelled even though I aint going to see them anyway.
It's been rainy much of the day and gloomy nearly all of it. I am hoping to go see some fireworks soon though.

There are some on television right now.
This holiday has become a god damned fallacy. No longer is anything remotely regarding independence, freedom, or testicular fortitude to stand up for what you believe around; it has become a bunch of spoiled bastards shooting off firecrackers and drinking low quality alcohol. This country is going to the dogs.
Ugh.

I don't know, you can't expect a yearly revolution. I do agree it's a shell of itself but not neccessarily for the reasons you mentioned in that manner. Getting drunk, fat and blowing stuff up is fine as long as it's being done in celebration of this nation's greatest holiday. I would imagine you're implying that the holiday seemingly exists just for people to goof off as most are too dumb witted to take a minute or two to reflect on it in their thoughts or in a conversation with a fellow American.
I have older relatives (many who have passed on) who were immigrants to this country and all that I could remember showed their appreciation for this country and it's opportunities because they realize what we're afforded and what they weren't afforded back home. My great uncle (who was the oldest of the children in his family and remembered life before America) would always keep a huge flag flying at his home and supposedly would take it down on the 3rd to go get it clean so it would be flying clean and perfect. He would throw big cook offs on the 4th and we would pray and say the national anthem before we would eat (which a friend of mine found to be odd when he joined us a few years back.) And all of his children were expected to learn as much as possible about the history of our nation (consequently, two were history majors IIRC), so when I know things like that, it makes you realize that there must be a pretty damn important reason to celebrate this nation and uphold what we stand for on a daily basis.
Needless to say, someone like that I am sure would be aghast to this current immigration situation (not that they shouldn't be given the same chance he got, but they shouldn't be welcomed in with open arms if they are not putting forth the effort to become an American but rather someone who just lives here.)

they said it was supposed to storm all afternoon. it turned out to be beautiful and sunny. went for a 3 mile run (after watching the cubs flub), felt like puking. and then tonight, drank some beers, watched some more baseball.
and then watching some fireworks tonight while drinking cheap alcohol.
the neighborhood fireworks are much better than the city of chicago's official fireworks.
