Scores will be posted later today and tomorrow, or close to that. The hold up was me trying to confirm if a certain movie actually crossed the 100 million barrier or not. Multiple sites gave different amounts, and it was indeed important because it would have changed the complexion of a couple of questions. I will also.. go find my thread which was unsticked sometime ago.. thanks for that, by the way.
1. This question will be the ultimate movie pick ‘ums. Simply, between now and September 30th, which film will gross the most domestically. Not just as an opener, but most period. The film must have opened this weekend and beyond, nothing before will count.
Scoring: 50 for right answer
Answer: Pirates of the Caribbean 2: Dead Man's Chest
2. How many films in the same time period will gross 100 million or more? (Just need a number, not the films)
Scoring: 25 for right answer
PotC2, Superman Returns, X3, Da Vinci Code, The Devil Wears Prada, Talladega Nights, Cars, Click, MI:III, The Break Up, Over the Hedge (11 total) Ice Age 2 opened before the contest and was not counted.
3. Ten films in that same time period grossed 100 million or more last summer. Will there be more, less, or as many in 2006? (for reference, those ten films were: star wars episode III; war of the worlds; batman begins; mr. And mrs. Smith; 40 year old virgin; wedding crashers; the longest yard remake; Charlie and the chocolate factory; Madagascar; and the fantastic four)
Scoring: 25 for right answer
11, compared to 10. More wins.
4. Rank the following nine films in order from the most grosser to the least grosser:
You, Me and Dupree
The Da Vinci Code
Pulse
Lady in the Water
Miami Vice
Click
Snakes on a Plane
Clerks II
Cars
Scoring: 10 points per correct positioning, 100 if perfect
Correct ranking:
1. Cars
2. The Da Vinci Code
3. Click
4. You, Me and Dupree
5. Miami Vice
6. Lady in the Water
7. Snakes on a Plane
8. Pulse
9. Clerks II
I didn't bother notifying on this forum, but since DOA was bumped back to be released in the fall whenever, I changed the scoring so that it reflects 9 answers instead of ten. So all nine right will earn 100 points.
5a. Finally, will the top five grossing films of the summer season combined gross more than last year’s top five? (the top five were: star wars episode IIIl; war of the worlds; wedding crashers; Charlie and the chocolate factory; and batman begins)
Scoring: 50 for right answer
1,314,845 billion for 2006 vs. 1,235,316 billion for 2005
5b. Guesstimate the amount the top five for 2006 will make. (Um, for the non-bright people out there, I'd say you should guess 500 million or more).
Scoring: 50 points to every answer that is within 10 million of the exact amount
1,314,845 billion for 2006
