I'm getting tired of seeing this stupid dumbass meme/quote on facebook saying 'You're killing yourself for a job that would replace you within a week if you dropped dead", and of course half of the time it's accompanied by that stupid Anonymous guy in the Guy Fawkes mask, because that somehow makes every quote more profound.

Well, no shit they'd replace me. I'm not so vital to the company that they cannot run without me and business has to keep going. But that doesn't mean they don't care about their employees (which is not to say there aren't employers that don't show any care for those working for them). It's just the nature of the business transaction that is employment.

Also, this works both ways. I'm sure not a single person sharing this dumbass quote or whoever the dumbass is that originated it wouldn't drop their employer in a heartbeat if a better paying job came along. And, if the job did the equivalent of dropping dead (going out of business) they too would be looking to replace them within a week.

And I'm not killing myself. I'm simply working my best because, I know it's a foreign concept to some people, but I believe in doing the best job I can do when someone or some organization is giving me their money in exchange for doing a job for them. I believe in holding up my end of the bargain.

I have taken into account the potential context of just saying not to overexert yourself with way too many hours, and some of the friends I see sharing it I'd think that's more the context they're likely going for.

But there's others who are always bitching about anything to do with having to go to a job, wanting to be the first to leave whenever they can, and always complaining about anything to do with work sharing it and I know they mean the asinine context of it all.

Then if you click on it to the source picture and dare dive into the comments section you see all kinds of people talking about how we're slaves to the system because heaven forbid you have to actually work to earn a living.

I hate it when people say “excuse me” when it’s not needed. Like when you come close to someone in passing but there’s still plenty of room and nobody had to divert course or step out of the other person’s way yet that person feels the need to look at you and say “excuse me”.

It’s especially infuriating when it happens with an accusatory tone and not the (thankfully more common) tone of just being too polite.
