DVD player question (stupid I know)

Is there a program or something one could download to be able to view PAL DVDs? I'm pretty sure my player only plays NTSC, but I was hoping there would be some way I'd be able to watch a PAL disc as my regular player is also NTSC only...

all DVDs in North America are NTSC (region 1) and PAL is region 2 like UK and Euro I think...it's retarded because you can't watch other regions under that scenario...some region 0 (region free) and will work anywhere...there are 9 regions IIRC...

look region 8! friggin' cruise ships and airlines? c'mon now...

It has nothing to do with region codes. PAL and NTSC are how video and audio are encoded.

NTSC video is encoded at 29.97 frames per second (i.e. 60 Hz frequency). That's the biggest difference but not the only one.

PAL, on the other hand, is video/audio that is encoded at a much slower frame rate than NTSC, something like 25 frames per second (50 Hz frequency is what I remember).

So basically, the differences in frame rate between NTSC and PAL is the "difficult" part of video format conversion because since you have a different number of frame per second between the two, if you're converting from NTSC to PAL for example, the machine has to create "new" frames from two old frames to make "artificial" images than what was recorded.

The region codes are just DVD protection so that a DVD that is out in North America can't be watched in Europe or wherever else (they don't want Europeans watching movies that haven't been released in Europe yet).

Ha ha...the reason they have Region 8 is because the airplane companies edit parts of their DVDs to make movies suitable for viewing by the public (sex, violence, language, etc.) and to have them run in a shorter length of time. Nothing really special aside from that.

well, since they skipped region 7, perhaps I could make DVDs that only work in my room as region 7?
