Don't be stupid like the Reds management...trade him for pitching! Offense is not your problemRealizing that he'll never be able to crack the Rangers' lineup at first base as long as All-Star Mark Teixeira is entrenched at that position, Texas prize prospect Adrian Gonzalez has approached the organization about the possibility of converting to a corner outfield spot.
"I'm going to look at my opportunities," Gonzalez said. "I had my agent call the organization to see if they would be interested in me trying to play some outfield and maybe try to learn a position. I understand Teixeira is a great first baseman and I'm not going to take his position, so I have to look for ways to get in the lineup other than DH. I'm open for anything.
"We just asked if they thought it would be a good idea for me to learn to play the outfield. They said they'd talk about it and get back to us."
Gonzalez is a smooth-fielding, left-handed first baseman who has hit .304 and .338 respectively the last two years at Triple-A Oklahoma. Last year at this time, there was talk about Teixeira possibly moving to right field to open up first base for Gonzalez. But with Teixeira thriving both offensively and defensively as a first baseman, the Rangers don't want to tamper with that proven success.
