I wonder how Ranger fans feel about this. Losing Lee and the next best thing is Brandon Webb? I have a hard time believing Webb can get back to form.

I don't know how Rangers fans feel but I feel pretty disappointed.

This would have been a perfect gamble for the Padres as a financially challenged team.

Shouldn't feel too bad. If this goes final, it's not a lot of money invested on a reclamation project. You never know. Chris Carpenter managed to comeback once upon a time ago. Not saying that happens every time, but it's an outside chance.

Also, the rangers weren't that bad last season before they picked up Lee. Ranger fans should be confident with the talent they still have plus the young flux of pitching they still have around.

Re: [pending] Brandon Webb to sign 1 year deal

Its funny, Reds fans once upon a time wished for the day where Webb would be a FA. Webb is from Kentucky, grew up a Reds fan, and seemed to be one of the more realistic dream scenarios of a player taking less to come to Cincinnati. Of course by the time that it was possible, Webb is a risky (but great gamble) and the Reds have enough arms. Travel back in time with Doc Brown and tell a Reds fan this in 2006... ha.

Sounds like $3 million plus $5-7 million in incentives

$3 million is more than I would have gone with Webb. He hasn't pitched in so long and his velocity is still not where it needs to be, even after "impressing" scouts late last year. Rangers were good without Lee like someone mentioned so Rangers fans can't feel that bad about making a move to get Webb. They are still a deep team and if Feliz moves into the rotation, they have to feel better but as a fan I would worry about the A's and how much they improved.

It is a bit much at $3 million... but I dig this move. Webb, if he bounces back (big if), is among the best and is an extreme groundball pitcher, usually with a 1.9+ G/F. Should he come back strong, he is the kind of pitcher the Rangers need and could do quite well in their park. After losing Lee though, it doesn't come close to filling that hole right now (potentially, it may.)

Re: [finalized] Brandon Webb to sign 1 year deal

Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram writes that Brandon Webb is likely done for the season.
The Rangers said Wednesday that Webb is currently considering his options, one of which includes rotator cuff surgery. The 32-year-old right-hander hasn't pitched in the major leagues since Opening Day of the 2009 season and after numerous failed rehab attempts, it's now very possible that he won't ever make it back.
Really sucks for Webb as he was an elite pitcher before going down. He's a good ole KY boy so I hope he does well but not everyone does come back from surgery. Maybe he could come back and be a pitching coach someday.

    Wow, that's sad....

He was a stud pitcher for so long, difficult to see him go out this way.
