Not too bad for Murphy winning the the first AL installment of the MLB's newest award, the rookie of the month.
David Murphy finished April batting .277 with a .342 OBP, 11 doubles, 2 homers, 15 runs scored and 14 RBI and was voted the American League's top rookie for the month of April.
Murphy beat out Jacoby Ellsbury, former Ranger farmhand Armando Galarraga, and Greg Smith (the same Greg Smith that Texas beat 4-0 yesterday) to win the award.
Murphy status as a mainstay in the Ranger lineups seems to be on thin ice right now though. After his solid April, Murphy is batting just .194 in May, although he does have 2 homers and 7 RBI in 9 games this month.
