    Salty back in the majors

After backup catcher Adam Melhuse injured his hand the Rangers elected to release him instead of placing him on the D.L. They brought up Salty to take his place on the roster and all indications is he is here to stay. He will start by splitting time with Laird behind the plate.

I really think everyone knows that he can hit, but can he be an effective catcher of those not so established pitchers of the Rangers.

No no no no no! He better be DH or 1B when he isn't catching.

Do the Rangers have another guy that can catch once in a while? If not, it wouldn't be wise to put both catchers in the game at the same time very often.

As far as I know they only have Laird and Salty, but I would imagine they would have an emergency catcher which I think would be Catalanotto.

Why did he go down to the minors?

Very good question. My personal opinion is to work on his backstop skills, cuz this guy can hit.

I would agree with that assessment, Bon Bon. Salty has never been considered a great defensive catcher. He throws well, but needs work on the finer points -- footwork, blocking balls in the dirt, etc. There has never been a question about his offensive ability.

Its amazing what Washington does when his job is on the line. Salty should have been up in the first place.

Time to add a spark to the team. He can play C, 1B, or DH. Just need to keep his bat in the lineup. He could be the next Victor Martinez.

In really think the Rangers should pick a position for him and let him work on it. Moving him back and forth between 3 positions could affect him with his hitting.

Doesnt seem to affect Victor Martinez's hitting. Let him DH then and be the backup catcher, this way he gets his AB's andsome time to learn his craft at being a catcher. The Rangers fill 2 roles with one player then.
