In last night's 7-3 win over the Cubs, Sammy Sosa hit the 600th homerun of his career off of Jason Marquis to put the Rangers up 5-1. His 5th inning blast made his just the 5th player ever to reach the 600 homerun mark. Joining Hall of Famers Hank Aaron, Babe Ruth, and Willie Mays and and then there is Barry Bonds.
Almost 38,000 fans witnessed the historic even in the Ballpark in Arlington. Sosa spent 13 seasons with the Cubs hitting 545 of his 600 career homeruns, which makes it that much more ironic that his milestone 600th would come against his former team. Another interesting bit of irony, Sosa's victim (Jason Marquis) now wear the #21 that Sosa used to wear as a Cub.
Sosa took two curtain calls saluting the fans, and even sent one of his trademark heart-tapping salutes towards the Cubs dugout showing his respect for his opponent.
