Game 1 Matchup Notes
Volquez: In his rookie year last year he posted an ERA of 14.21 in 3 starts and 3 relief appearances. In 21 triple A starts this year he has gone 6-6 with a 3.21 ERA.

Loaiza: Esteban will be making his first start of the year against his former team. He has been hit around this season posting an ERA of 6.50 and his last quality start was on June 8th allowing 1 run in 7 innings against the Indiands.

Game 2 Matchup Notes
Millwood: He has not pitched too well in his last 3 starts going 0-2 with a 4.74 ERA but is still a very solid 7-1 with a 3.13 ERA on the road. He is 3-0 with a 3.09 ERA in 5 career starts against the A's. His last start against Oakland was not good however allowing 7 runs on 9 hits over 5 innings.

Komine: In the first start of his big league career, Komine gave up just 1 run on 4 hits and 4 walks in 6 innings in a no decision against the Blue Jays.

Game 3 Matchup Notes
Padilla: Vicente has a sub-4 ERA since the all-star break and is 6-3 with a 3.47 ERA over his last 11 starts. He has struggled against Oakland this year though going 1-1 with a 5.40 ERA in 3 starts.

Zito: In his last start, against the Mariners, Zito allowed just 1 run over 7 innings to pick up his 12th win of the year. The Rangers have roughed him up a bit this year though. In 3 starts against Texas this year Zito has allowed 13 runs on 16 hits over 20.1 innings going 1-1.
