ARLINGTON, Texas (Ticker) - The Texas Rangers released veteran reliever Antonio Alfonseca on Monday.
Signed as a free agent in January, Alfonseca was 0-0 with a 5.63 ERA in 19 appearances with Texas.
Alfonseca, 34, led the National League with 45 saves as a member of the Florida Marlins in 2000, despite an ERA of 4.24 in 68 appearances. He was traded to Chicago along with Matt Clement in January 2002 in the deal that brought Dontrelle Willis to Florida.
Alfonseca returned to the Marlins last season and went 1-1 with a 4.94 ERA in 33 appearances.
A native of the Dominican Republic, Alfonseca has 121 career saves - 102 of them with Florida.
