Sure but would they be able to do it without compensation picks to supplement their draft picks

While this Type A Player might help Team X win 5-6 more games, he's still looking at a 105 loss season, as he attempts to stack his minor league system.
Seems like a lot of trouble to trade a current year's high 2nd round pick for a low 1st round pick 2 years later, while hoping the type A player doesn't die off during those 2 years.

Plus, if the type A player is young enough 2 years, max or no max, may not cut it for him.

I agree with the majority of your post (most of the part I cropped out in the quote) but I don't see this part as much of a concern.

The same teams since the inception of this league have been competing for playoffs and world series almost every year without compensation, so, yeah, at least in this league it works. Compensation won't hurt. Just adds another angle for everyone to consider.

So although I generally dislike FA Compensation, I like that part
Let's not skew intent on this though. I inherited a team that had 9 players on the roster during that offseason and a salary of about 13 million. If I was going to field a 25 man roster not full of 1.0 overall players, much less compete, I needed to spend money.

    Just a couple things:

    - Type A will no longer require a draft pick from the signing team. I've thought it over and decided against it. I'm thinking a legit 5.0 + 4.5

    - Teams must make a solid attempt (judged by me) to sign the player in order to receive compensation. Open teams are exempt from this rule.

Can we get one post at the top of a thread to detail the criteria that makes a Typ A, Type B, and Type C free agent?
