Thread: Edwin Jackson likely to AAA

    Edwin Jackson likely to AAA

Devil Rays signed RHP Brian Meadows to a one-year contract.
Meadows will go right into the pen, and we expect this eliminates the chances of the Rays putting Edwin Jackson into the rotation and utilizing Doug Waechter as a reliever. Our guess is that Meadows' below average fastball won't go over very well against the tough lineups of the AL East. He's another Travis Harper for Tampa Bay.

That has to hurt the pride a bit, formerly an elite prospect rising to the majors, now beat up by Brian ****ing Meadows for a bullpen spot according to the speculation? Ouch.

If you can't make the Devil Dogs rotation or bullpen, then it's time to retire.

Dog Waechter will be the Devil Rays No. 5 starter to open the season.
Waechter beat Edwin Jackson for the spot. "We just want to see [Jackson] have a nice run of success," manager Joe Maddon said. "He did a great job here. We just have a couple things we want him to work on. We don't want him to be on the shuttle between here and Durham. We want him, once he's here, to stay here.

Of course, he's Doug Waechter and not Dog, but here is the official confirmation. Not a huge surprise there.

Also, as an update, he'll start the 5th game and not be skipped over. Kazmir owners adjust accordingly

The Rays have reversed course and decided to start Doug Waechter in the fifth game of the season on Saturday.
Manager Joe Maddon was originally planning to skip Waechter the first time through. Waechter isn't an option in AL-only leagues right now.
