Carl Crawford decided to have surgery to repair a broken right hand.
The surgery will sideline him 6-8 weeks. Those 6 weeks bring him to the last series of the season. However, those estimations usually are a bit under, so expect him to be out probably the rest of the regular season, and possibly into the playoffs should they make it.
The middle finger on his right hand is the problem.
Andrew Friedman, the Rays executive vice president of baseball operations, said the following:
"If every single thing went extremely well I'd say that there is a chance he could play in a regular-season game. There's just such a small window that I wouldn't say it's likely, but there is definitely a chance."
