The Tampa Bay Rays called up Longoria from Class AAA Durham on Friday. The prized third base prospect will start Saturday against the Baltimore Orioles.
The move was made possible when the Rays placed infielder Willy Aybar on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to April 10, with a left hamstring strain.
The third overall pick by the Rays in 2006, Longoria had been expected to start the season with Tampa Bay after a meteoric rise through the minor leagues.
I hope he is ready to produce. He was doing little in the minors so far this season. He was hitting around .200 with NO homers. My thinking on this was Evan was upset that he did not make the big league club out of spring training like most people expected. With Aybar being out this is where Evan can stick with the team if he produces. The Rays are off to there best start ever, lets see if they can keep it going.
