When people think Tampa Bay Devil Rays, "multiple All-Stars" aren't the first thing that comes to mind, but look at this...
1B Carlos Pena - .307/.401/.665, 17 HRs, 44 RBIs
2B BJ Upton - .320/.396/.545, 9 HRs, 31 RBIs, 13 steals
OF Carl Crawford - .297/.354/.473, 6 HRs, 44 RBIs, 19 steals, 31 XBH
SP James Shields - 6-2, 3.64 ERA, 89 Ks, 1.02 WHIP
CL Al Reyes - 1-1, 3.26 ERA, 16/17 saves, 0.89 WHIP
Yes, it's possible, and even probable we will see at least 2 Devil Ray all stars. Any thoughts? IMO Pena has to make it because he's just been killing the ball ever since he came up, although there are a dearth of solid 1B in the AL. Upton will probably be a reserve at a weaker position, while facing competition from Roberts. Crawford is having a great season but good luck finding a spot in the AL OF. Shields - same thing as Crawford, AL SPs. Reyes has been just dominant as the closer and a filthy WHIP to prove it.
My prediction: Pena, Upton, and Reyes make the team, while Crawford and Shields, however undeservingly so, sit at home.
