With Gomes great day and an adequate start, the Rays should have won with a 6-5 lead in the 9th. But Walker did as his name indicates, and walked pretty much anything that came to the plate. Tough night...
After getting the save Friday in his Rays' debut, Tyler Walker was brought in to protect a one-run lead against the Red Sox on Saturday night. He gave up four runs and took the loss.
A single and back-to-back walks loaded the bases with no outs. Walker bounced back to strike out Manny Ramirez in a long at-bat, but Trot Nixon worked a walk, tying the game, and Jason Varitek followed with an RBI single. Dan Miceli entered then, and a sac fly and and a single added two runs to Walker's total. We're guessing that makes Miceli the favorite to receive the next save chance in Tampa Bay, though since both he and Walker have worked on back-to-back days, it's possible that neither will be used tomorrow. We're not at all optimistic that Walker will be an effective reliever for Tampa Bay.
