Yes, you still have to pay them the remaining money they are due. Unless the player is only arby eligible in which case you can nontender at the end of the season and not be responsibile for any more money.
You can try and trade guys and take very little back as a return to dump salary. I am guessing that Thomas Buteau is one of them you were looking at. You would still pay him for his 3.5 mil that he's due next year just escalate the pay to immediately.

Would that Just come out of "cash?" I have a fair amount of cash, I wanna dump Buteau AND Hurtado from my Minors. both making 3.5 Mil.
Does that mean I pay $7.0 mil to Hurtado and $3.5 Mil to Buteau? Will There then be $7.0 Mil avail for FA?
Just trying to wrap my head around it....
I dont understand the whole formula OOTP uses for the Free Agent Cash/Extension Cash. I tried to get it explained on the OOTP boards and came away just as confused. I'm not sure how dumping both would affect that next year. Mission, KoZ, Prov, OM, anyone whos run a league know how it works?

You'll lose even more money this year ($15 mil so far, which will decrease slightly w/ playoff revenue depending on how far you go). Cutting them both would cost you $10.5 mil combined. Since you have no extension or FA money I believe it will get taken out of your cash after the roll-over to 2033. Cutting Hurtado will probably cost you a few fan interest points as well. You will still have $0 available for FA and extensions after cutting them I think...because you lost money already and would be losing even more money.
It's wise to keep them buried in the minors, hope they either retire or you just wait till the contract ends. As PA said, you'll lose a bunch of money.

dang. :-(
.... on a completely unrelated note... anyone wanna trade for Hurtado or Buteau?
I would have signed Hurtado for much cheaper during FA, but then you swooped in out of nowhere to overpay him. I didn't think you were even active at the time to be honest.
lol, I half was. I hadnt quite grasped everything with S3SL at the time still have *quite* got it, as of this post lol. I know I over paid a ton thinking I needed people I didnt. I have a bench CF person making 8 mil/year for the next 3 years so yeah, Epic Fail. lol
I'm learning, thats all I can ask for right???
The money goes to the team expenses, not your cash. So you would still be at 0 and lose 10.5 million. It would cripple your finances even more. Its better to keep them.
2003 Hybrid World Champion (115-47 reg season, 11-4 playoffs)
TBL: Anaheim Angels 2006-present (238-244 regular season, 1 division title)
MSL: St Louis Cardinals 2013-present (2734-2936 regular season, 5 division titles, 2 championships)
TSSL: Seattle Mariners 2006-2029, Pittsburgh Pirates 2030-present (209-277, 5 division titles w/SEA, 1 championship w/SEA)
The money is taken out of cash during the roll-over when someone has $0 for FA and extensions. That is exactly what would happen in this situation. If he had turned a profit this year and still had FA/extension money, then cutting these players would just reduce the FA/extension money.

That's true! I just hope I can get my little bunch of overachievers to continue that through the playoffs! Maybe I can make some money to make it so I can break even this year... But I'm in a deep hole!
Not be a downer, but you won't break even. I think the most I've seen a team make in the playoffs is about $7 mil (going to the WS and maxing out their home games as you only get playoff revenue in home games). For example Mission's team won the WS last year and didn't even make $5 mil in playoff revenue.
