Departures
Pile "of" Cash - The powerful, expensive, but under-performing Cash was traded away. I can honestly say that it was mainly a $$$ issue, but in return I did get some potential...
Peter Gates - Lost a fan favorite there, but was never really a performer
Henry Huebner - Starting 2B and OF for a few seasons. Lost some talent a few years back but was a continuous presence in the lineup.
Timo Criado - Probably the best middle reliever I had.. another loss because of expenses
Charles Bunyard - The career .358 hitting backup catcher... one that I will truly miss... did more than was ever asked of him
Additions
William Cooney - 24 year old AAA OF. Has the potential and has only had 1/2 a season in the minors. If he fills out, could be a major contributor for many years.
Scott Wickersham - 24 year old immediately replaces Huebner in the lineup.. a slight boost and he could be the leadoff base stealer Baltimore has been missing in recent years
German Alvarez - 6-8-8- talent RP that could make it as a middle reliever
Max Power - Immediate addition to this depleted bullpen. 9-4-7 fireballer could be decent setup man
Robert Runion - RP to sit in AAA in case of emergency
Rigoberto Bareche - See above
Rotation
1) Leslie Eckard - 4.0 SP, 7-10-9, 70%GB, 87-90MPH - coming off a good year. Could still get traded for the right price, but signed cheaply for a few seasons
2) Frederick Cornett - 2.5 SP, 7-7-8, 35%GB, 91-94MPH - Lost some ratings again but has performed OK in the past.
3) Pio Aranda - 2.5 SP, 5-8-9, 36%GB, 88-91MPH - Coming off a 20 win season of overperforming
4) Antonio Telles - 2.5 SP, 6-8-8, 60%GB, 91-94MPH - Needs to finally fill out potential and actually perform
5) Pete Hadsell - 2.5 SP, 9-7-5, 47%GB, 91-94MPH - Needs to fill out and perform also or will be in the pen
Bullpen
4.5 CL Lucas Gutierrez - 8-10-9, 69%GB, 91-94MPH - Best pitcher on the staff. Can do well if he ever gets a lead carried over to him by the rest of the pen
5.0 spect Setup Robert Ramey - 4-7-9 (8-10-10 talent), 49%GB, 89-92MPH - Needs to fill out and take his place as a setup specialist
2.5 Setup Frank Llamas - 9-6-5, 39%GB, 91-94MPH - Has 6END but never made it as a starter. Lost some ratings and talent but still gets a spot in the pen
1.5 Mopup/Middle Max Power - 9-4-7 , 60%GB, 98-100MPH - Gets in the pen by default and because of his MPH.
4.0 Spect Mopup/Middle German Alvarez - 5-5-9 (6-8-8 talent), 41%GB, 89-92MPH - Comes immediately onboard to the pen. Nobody else to use.
Lineup
1) R Carlos Losoya CF - 2.0, 7-9-5-4-7 (8-9-10-8-7 talent), 9 speed, 7 steals - If he would fill out his talent, he would be choice the #3 hitter. needs to finally improve.
2) S George Robeson 3B - 2.5, 7-7-7-10-5 - Can't run but gets on base a lot. Career .293 hitter.
3) S Juan Haman 2B - 5.0 spect, 8-7-8-9-8 (7-7-10-10-7 talent) - Coming off an impressive rookie season. Should be a top producer on this team.
4) R Alberto Bermejo C - 4.0, 10-7-10-7-9 - Contact hitting catcher who has not lived up to his 10 power rating yet. If he ever would, he would be an MVP candidate.
5) S James Geist 1B - 2.5, 7-6-10-7-5 - Finally hit 30HR last season, but his BA has remained low. If he can get his average above .270 and keep the power ratios, I would be very pleased.
6) R Clifton Mooreman DH - 3.5, 6-6-10-7-6, 9 speed, 7 steals - The 6 contact power machine returns. lost his 7 contact rating against lefties, so that is worrisome. his power production per hit has been great in his career. Backup at all 4 IF positions.
7) S William Salazar RF - 3.0, 8-7-8-4-6 - Consistent performer that still may be traded away. 2 time gold glover in RF.
8) R Zachary Williams SS - 2.5, 7-7-8-6-6 - Coming off his best season batting over .290. If gives constant production, will remain the starter until an eventual 5.0 SS phenom takes his place in 1 to 2 seasons.
9) L Scott Wickersham LF - 4.0 spect, 7-7-3-4-9, 8 speed, 8 steals - Recent addition and rookie. gets starting roll because other OFers on the ML roster have no decent contact ratings
Bench
C Larry Marzano - 3.0 spect, 6-7-2-5-6 (8-9-3-6-6 talent) - Rookie replaces Bunyard and can hopefully live up to his legacy as a good hitting backup catcher
1B Fernando Valdes - 1.0, 7-6-4-4-7 - Former 4.0 1B spect who has not ever fully developed. Would like better, but I have nothing right now
2B/SS Jonathan Blackburn - 1.0, 7-7-4-7-5 - Basic low level utility IF and pinch hitter
2B/SS/3B Raphael Castro - 4.0 spect, 6-10-6-5-3 (6-10-9-6-2 talent) - former 5.0 spect lost contact and Strikeout talent. Still gets a shot
CF/RF James Sproles - 2.0, 7-6-6-5-7, 7 speed, 10 steals - Could be hitting occasionally in the 9 hole for Wickersham. Needs to up ratings against lefties
LF/CF/RF Lonnie Mobley - 2.5, 6-7-7-10-6 - Walks machine with decent power production. Not enough contact talent to warrant a starting job.
Strengths
1-7 in the lineup should perform. 2 potential MVP type candidates. HR production should be decent. OB% should be better than average in this league. Setup and Closer should preserve wins if they get a chance from the starters and middle relief. Eckard could be the lone gem in the rotation.
Weaknesses
2-5 in the rotation would not usually be better than a 5th starter anywhere else, and I do mean anywhere. Most would not be in the rotation on other teams. Middle relief is horrible. Speed, stealing, and baserunning are severely lacking. LF being learned by Wickersham. Defense at 3B with Robeson will suffer. The offense in the IF is one injury away from an offensive nightmare.
Outlook
Runs scored in the top 12 or so in the league
ERA close to bottom 5 in the league
Looking at 4th place and around 70 wins in the AL east
